Superbowl - 02/04

So today was the big day ! Having been up until around 6:00a.m. playing poker, I did not roll out of bed until around 12. At that point, I headed down to the swimming pool/spa where I worked out a little and tried to prepare for the afternoon party I'd been invited to by the casino floor manager I'd met in the high limit blackjack area.

By 2:00 p.m., I was ahead a total of about $ 6,000, so I took $ 1,500 and bet in on the Bears to not lose my more than 7 AND the total points to be less than 47. It sounded like a good bet and felt right and I was playing with the houses money so wasn't too stressed. The game started at 3:30, and the venue was very nice as it had a movie theater sized screen. Just as soon as the game started the Bears score a touchdown and this in rapid succession was followed by yet another. I could not believe my good fortune.. here they were underdogs with a 14 point lead !
Needless to say, anyone who watched the game can after the fact tell you that "it ain't over until it's over". The Colts rallied and the short of it was that I lost the bet with the final score being Colts 29 Bears 17. Iguess that why they call it gambling !

The only silver lining, was that I'd purchased $ 40 of charity auction tickets, and ended up winning a signed print of Magic Johnson (one of only 32) from when he was on the Olypic team in 1992. The list price on it was $ 1,750, but I honestly have no sense of what it is TRULY worth.

Lake Tahoe - 02/03

I drove up on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, and arrived at about 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, Sandra was not able to go, as she had some "dog commitments" and was also meeting up with a friend ("Emma") who was flying in from Australia for the Westminster dog show.

As I descended into the valley, I was reminded of how stunningly beautiful the area is. I checked into a nice room at Montbleau, and then proceeded down to the casino for a little bit of gambling. Fortunately, the cards were falling my way, and in the course of the evening I was able to pull ahead by about $ 4,ooo.

While playing blackjack, one of the hosts (Trish) extended me an invitation to attend a Howie Mandel pre-show party so I changed and went to this affair. There was finger food and plenty of liquor, but the party was nothing to write home about. The price was right though - FREE :). After the party, I proceeded to the Howie Mandel show and really had a fun evening. He is very funny, even though some folks who brought their kids along (bad call), didn't seem to think so.

After the show, I decided it was time to try my luck at a little bit of Texas Hold-em, so I played for about 6 hours, ending up with exactly $ 28 more than the $ 1,000 I'd started with. Normally the games are not as tight as this one was, as it appeared that many of the people had more time than money and they were playing very tight. I think the biggest hand I saw all evening was $ 200 which was amazing for a $1/$2 game where there were folks with good sized buy ins.
